The new spin-off Ocean’s 8 features a star-studded cast playing a female gang led by Debbie Ocean (Sandra Bullock), a sister of the original’s main character, who head to the MET Gala to steal some expensive jewellery.
In case you don’t remember its 2001 predecessor, Ocean’s Eleven was a heist film directed by Steven Soderbergh (Erin Brockovich, Sex, Lies and Videotape) with George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts. It wasn’t the first time the storyline and the characters were used – it was also a remake of Frank Sinatra’s 1960s movie. The new, female-led film will be directed by Gary Ross (Free State of Jones, The Hunger Games), who’s co-written the script with Olivia Milch.
The cast of Ocean’s 8 features a handful of big names: Cate Blanchett, Helena Bohnam Carter, Dakota Fanning, Sandra Bullock, Anne Hathaway and Olivia Munn. Rihanna and Mindy Kaling will also appear alongside them – with the primer having a similar rumoured project in the works alongside Lupita Nyong’o under the direction of Ava DuVernay for Netflix.
The film will be released in the UK next summer, on the 22nd of June 2018.
